Ticket details have been finalised for Rugby League's evening of fundraising for the victims of the Australian floods. The event, which has the backing of all sectors of the sport, will take place at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Wednesday 16th March.
Initiated last week, there has already been tremendous reaction to in the gala evening, with stars of the game and from other sports registering their interest in the event.
A commemorative ticket is being produced by international designer Richard Parr of Artwork Monkey which will become a collector's item.
The tickets are priced at £50 each and tables of ten can be purchased for £500 plus VAT. Reservations can be made from Tuesday 1st February, for cash and cheque payments only, from Philip Howard Books in Leeds and Rotherham and Euphoria Fitness in Huddersfield. Cheques should be made payable to 'Euro RL Australian floods appeal.'
They will also be able to be available via the Rugby Football League ticket hotline for credit card purchases from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm by calling 0844 856 1113.
With news of the event hitting the media in Australia, Queensland and now Parramatta star Chris Walker, who has been doing sterling work for the cause there, was keen to pledge his support for the evening.
"Having been personally affected by the floods, it is great to hear that across the other side of the world the public are doing their bit for the Queensland people," he said.
"It's fantastic that the sport there is helping out, just to hear the names who have already pledged their support is humbling - it sounds like it's going to be a special night."
"It just goes to show the values of Rugby League and how much this great sport rallies behind the people who really need it the most."
In Toowoomba, the Queensland town hit by a terrifying torrent, former Catalans Dragons and France star, Justin Murphy was caught up in the horror.
"The afternoon of the storm my wife was in town when the flash flood went through it," he recalled. "She was very frightened but just managed to steer up to a higher street to get away from the water. I was working at my pub about 15 minutes outside Toowoomba and we were totally cut off from everyone for the day, it was pretty desperate.
"I am friends with Chris Rice who has unfortunately lost his mother and brother in the floods. It has touched everyone around this area and to hear that people over there are thinking of us is truly appreciated."
Bradford Bulls coach Mick Potter has been a prime mover in promoting the Leeds dinner. "It is just the right thing to be doing," he commented. "It's tough to imagine what people stranded over there in Queensland and Victoria are going through with the loss of life, houses, contents and possessions.
"Despite being so far away, this evening gives us the perfect opportunity to materially help, something that is ingrained in our sport wherever it is played."
He added, "It sounds like it's going to be a who's who of Rugby League attending and I would urge any rugby league fan to book their tickets early."
Tickets can be purchased in person by cash/cheque or by sending a cheque to:

Catalans Dragons prolific try scoring winger Justin Murphy celebrated another scrap book moment with a bottle of champagne on Monday as he was unveiled in the engage Super League 2006 Dream Team.
The Australian flier, who had a brief spell with Widnes Vikings two years ago, finished the regular season on top of the try scoring charts with 25 tries in 28 matches, two clear of nearest rival Danny McGuire from the Leeds Rhinos. "To be included in the engage Dream Team is also another achievement I never dreamed of. The guys picked are all world class in their own positions and it is nice to be recognised for my achievements. I just hope I can continue the same form in next year's competition which won't be easy as everyone now knows who I am!"Justin was presented with his bottle of champagne by engage Mutual Assurance Sponsorship Manager Tina Clare:
"It is a great achievement by Justin and just goes to show how even the engage Super League has been this year.
