Local talent Kirk Netherton has signed a one year deal with the Hull Kingston Rovers first team for 2008.

Netherton has joined his Senior Academy team mate Chaz I'anson in the squad for next season and is delighted with the opportunity that lies ahead of him.

A regular in the Senior Academy side this year, the young hooker and cousin of first team player Jason Netherton has caught the attention of the coaching staff, and been rewarded for his efforts and abilities.

Netherton said: "I can't wait to get stuck in and show Justin what I'm capable of. I'm grateful for this opportunity and I know that I've been given a chance to prove myself as a player."

Head Coach Justin Morgan said: "This year the Senior Academy has got stronger and Kirk plays a key role within the improvement of that team. It's an exciting time for the club and it's great to be developing young local players. Kirk has a great opportunity ahead of him which I'm sure he'll make the most of."

Meanwhile, lloose forward Tommy Gallagher (squad number 13) has extended his loan spell with National League 1 Club Batley Bulldogs RLFC until the 15th September.

Gallagher who has been progressing well at Batley has chosen to extend his time there until the end of the Bulldog's season, and Morgan explained: "We'll certainly be monitoring Tommy's progress until the end of the season. I reiterate that Tommy is a Hull KR player and will be returning to the club."
