Source: http://www.hullkr.co.ukRovers full-back Shaun Briscoe will take a special place in rugby league history against Catalans Dragons this weekend, and says the team head to France full of confidence.
The victory over Castleford Tigers last weekend not only secured a play-off spot but ensured that both Briscoe and Clint Newton would not leave the club stranded on 99 appearances in the famous red and white.
Former Wigan-man Briscoe made 103 appearances in the black and white of Hull FC, and his 100th appearance for the Robins this weekend will make him only the fourth man in over a hundred years to reach the century milestone for both Hull clubs.
"It's just a case of putting our best foot forward, training well and putting in the performances on this weekend," said Briscoe this week.
"It's this week we've got to concentrate on. It's alright saying we're capable of it but we've got to go to Catalans and win this weekend.
"We know it's going to be tough. We were there a couple of weeks ago and it was very hard but we got the win then and that was a massive win for us.
"It starts again this week and we've got to be professional, complete our sets and dig in.
"I think confidence wise it does lift us. But It's play-offs and it's completely different.
"We go there full of confidence and knowing we've got the beating of them. But we've also got to make sure we don't underestimate them. We've got to turn up and perform."
The England full-back said the two months in which the Robins have been chasing down the play-off pack will put them in good stead for the challenges that lie in front of them in the pursuit of Old Trafford.
"It has been sudden death rugby for us," said Briscoe.
"If you put yourself under that sort of pressure- which we shouldn't have done with some of our results this season- then it does bring it out of you.
"Hopefully we're on a little bit of a roll now and we can continue that into the games.
"I think you've just got to respect the ball and defend well. They're the key aspects to it. Any team can score points but if you can keep hold of the ball, and starve the other team of it. It sounds simple but it's more difficult than it sounds.
"We're taking it a game at a time but we have got a belief in ourselves that we can beat any team on our day if we turn up and perform."

Source: http://www.hullkr.co.ukHull KR have today confirmed that both Clint Newton and Ben Fisher will leave the club at the end of the season.
Newton has been granted a release from the final year of his contract to enable him to return to the NRL on a two-year deal with Penrith Panthers.
Speaking of his return to Australia after four years with the club, Newton said: "It has been an honour and privilege to play for Rovers and live in the city of Hull these last four years.
"On my arrival I had heard so many good things about the history of Hull KR and the derbies. London and other parts of the nation may have the bright lights and skyscrapers, but I'll take Hull's genuine hospitality, passion and working class mentality over those superficial things every day of the year.
"My decision to take up the opportunity to move back home comes with a heavy heart and it's not a decision that was made overnight. This decision is what's best for my future, my partner and my family, and those reasons are the only reason for my departure, nothing else.
"The fact I am able to return to the NRL shows just what Hull KR as club, the players, the coaching staff and the fans have done for me. They have all contributed to me being able to love what I do and in turn depart a better player than when I arrived."
30-year old Scotland international Fisher has been an integral part of the clubs success in the modern era with Head Coach Justin Morgan signing him from Halifax with the hooker part of the promotion winning squad in 2006.
Fisher will leave with his own special place in the history of the club by being the first player to make 100 Super League appearances for the red and whites, a milestone he reached in the opening round of Super League XVI against Hull FC in Cardiff.
"I'd like to thank the club for giving me the chance to represent them in what has been an amazing journey," said Fisher.
"I want to say a thank-you to Neil, the board and the coaching staff because I've grown up with this club. Justin gave me the opportunity and has put faith in me to enable me to achieve what I've achieved, so I owe a special thanks to him.
"I want to finish the season on a high in my last game at Craven Park and it's going to be an emotional week for me knowing that it's going to be the last time I'll play in front of the fans as a home player, and I want to thank them as well.
"It has been fantastic playing in front of them week-in, week-out and what I will say is the there's no way I'm leaving that field on Saturday as a loser. I'm certain we've still got another five games in us and we can achieve something special."
Robins Chairman Neil Hudgell paid tribute to the departing duo.
"Clint's reasons for wanting to return home now are perfectly understandable and given his exemplary service to the club over the last four years we were prepared to grant him a release," said Hudgell.
"I would personally like to wish him and his partner Carly the very best of luck with the remaining years of his career and I know he leaves here with everyone's very best wishes having played his part in the development of the club over the last four years.
"Whilst it is far from ideal for the team and club to be releasing a player of Clint's qualities I think it is equally important to recognise his contribution to the club and act accordingly.
"I would sincerely like to thank Ben for his years of loyal service to the cause.
"He has been with us since the start of our National League journey and will always have an important part in our recent history being recognised as our first Super League centurion.
"I think Ben is a champion bloke as well as a great player and the way he conducts himself away from the park is a great credit to him and his family.
"I am sure everyone will look forward to giving Ben the sort of send off he deserves at Craven Park on Saturday."
