Newtown prop gains NSW Residents selection

Newtown Jets front-rower Dale Newton has been called up for representative duties with the NSW Residents XIII to play Queensland at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night as the main curtain-raiser to State of Origin III.

The NSW Residents Rugby League representative team is chosen each year from the ranks of the NSWRL VB Premier League competition and the NSW Country Rugby League, while their Queensland counterparts are chosen from the QRL'S flagship Queensland Cup competition.

Newton's selection is all the more meritorious as he came to Newtown earlier this year as a triallist and earned a place in Newtown's VB Premier League squad through his hard work and uncompromising professionalism. Following the Parramatta game he was in fact Newtown's top try-scorer for the 2007 season, a somewhat bizarre situation for a fully paid-up member of the United Front Rowers Union! In keeping with his status as a hard working front-rower he has a face that only a mother could love, and he could walk into any villain's role in any future remake of Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction!
