Luke Burt to play 200th and Oake is back for Shack

Sunday afternoon footy returns to Parramatta Stadium this weekend in a huge clash between traditional rivals Parramatta and the Manly Sea Eagles, which will double as a celebration for wing Luke Burt's milestone 200th game.

The Parramatta Eels will celebrate Luke Burt Family Day with fun and activities in the stadium precinct before the game, and all fans will be given the rare opportunity to run onto the Parramatta Stadium field at the conclusion of the match.

Local junior Brendan Oake will play his first game of the year on Sunday for the Pirtek Parramatta Eels after coach Daniel Anderson named the Cabramatta product on the bench in place of Shane Shackleton.

Shackleton has been ruled out for the rest of the year after sustaining a severe hamstring injury in the Eels' first clash of the season against the St George Illawarra Dragons and will remain in hospital until the end of the week.

Coach Daniel Anderson is disappointed for Shackleton after a strong pre-season, but believes Oake will be effective from the bench.

"It is a terrible and horrific injury for Shane, and to be out for the season so early on is devastating. It does open the door for Brendan though," Anderson said.

"It's a great opportunity for him as he has not played first grade since Round 11 last year so I'm looking forward to his contribution to the team."

Centre Joel Reddy has been named in the starting side after pulling out of last week's game during the warm-up with a leg injury. Krisnan Inu has again been named on an extended bench.

Eels re-sign Brendan Oake
Tue June 24, 2008

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels are pleased to announce the re-signing of talented backrower Brendan Oake for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Oake became the 701st player to wear the Blue & Gold in First Grade when he made his NRL Debut in Round 1 against the Bulldogs this year.

Oake who turns 23 later this year has represented the Club from Harold Matthews through to NRL having played his junior football at the Cabramatta Club.

Several Clubs had expressed interest in Oake, however Oake said the decision to stay at Parramatta was an easy one.

"I have played all my football at Parramatta and now playing NRL. The Club has been very good to me and I'm playing in First Grade with a number of other players who have come up through the junior grades at Parramatta."

Coach Michael Hagan said "The re-signing of Brendan Oake is another example of how the Parramatta development system continues to produce quality players and Brendan has worked very hard on his game. I look forward to Brendan continuing to establishing himself in First Grade."
