Sam Obst, the former Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Hull FC half-back or hooker, is to follow in his father's footsteps after signing for Co-operative Championship club Keighley.
The 30-year-old Australian was a free agent after being released from the last year of his contract with Hull and has agreed a 12-month deal with the Cougars.
Obst, whose father Tony played for Keighley in the 1970s, will link up at Cougar Park with his former Wakefield team-mates Michael Korkidas and Jason Demetriou, the Cougars player-coach.

Level on points with their play-off rivals, but ahead on points difference, the Black and Whites are boosted by the return of their now key playmaker, who has been enjoying a run in the side at No.7 in the absence of the experienced Sean Long.
The former Wakefield man has missed the last two matches with a calf problem but should return to the side, as could captain Craig Fitzgibbon who missed last week's emphatic win against Salford with a similar problem having recovered from a shoulder injury.
However, despite Obst's inclusion, he could well have a fight on his hands for a place in the side after an impressive performance from stand-in half back pairing Richard Horne and Joe Westerman.
Whilst the long serving Horne shifted to scrum half, the talented Joe Westerman reverted to stand off and continued his stunning form with another creative display.
With the 21-year-old capable of playing both in the halves and at loose man and two players returning for those positions this weekend, head coach Richard Agar has some options at his disposal.
The player to drop out of the squad this week is youngster Liam Kent.
