Source: www.superleague.co.ukGrand Final winner Iafeta Paleaaesina has issued a guarantee to help his new club reach the Engage Super League play-offs this year.
Salford City Reds finished third from bottom last year, one place higher than on their return to the top flight in 2009, but have high hopes of leaving The Willows as a top-eight team after rebuilding their squad.
Paleaaesina, who ended his Wigan Warriors career on a high with victory over St Helens at Old Trafford in October, is one of eight new faces in Shaun McRae's new-look squad and he believes the club's busy off-season recruitment drive will pay dividends.
"We'll definitely be in the top eight, I can guarantee that," said the former New Zealand prop forward.
"The new signings definitely give us the depth we needed. I think Salford did all right last year but they didn't have the back-up to offset injuries to key players."
Paleaaesina, who joined Wigan from New Zealand Warriors in 2005, had become something of a folk hero at the DW Stadium with his explosive impact from the bench and he admits it was a wrench to leave the champions.
There was no shortage of takers but he jumped at the chance to become part of the Reds revolution, a two-year contract meaning he will get the chance to join in the club's move to a new stadium in 2012.
Speaking at Salford's pre-season media day at Manchester's Trafford Centre, Paleaaesina added: "I'd have loved to have stayed at Wigan and I was gutted when they told me they weren't renewing my contract.
"But I'm grateful to Salford for providing me with a fresh start. It's a new chapter in my life and I'm going to enjoy it.
"I had a few options and, to be honest, I was pretty close to going to Bradford, but (Salford football director) Steve Simms and Shaun McRae sold the club to me and the rest is history.
"If I can please the crowd it will be good for me but my goal is to just do well for Salford."
Paleaaesina will make his first appearance for his new club against Wigan in Sunday's pre-season friendly at The Willows and he admits it will be strange facing his old team-mates.
"I talked to Thomas (Leuluai) and George (Carmont) and told them it will be weird," he said. "They were my team-mates for five years and I knew them back home in New Zealand so it will definitely be strange."

Source: www.wiganwarriors.comWigan Warriors will say farewell to four players at the end of the 2010 season with Mark Riddell, Iafeta Paleaaesina, Phil Bailey and Shaun Ainscough all leaving the Club.
Riddell confirmed to the Club at the end of June that he wished to return to Australia for family reasons and, on compassionate grounds, the Club granted the hooker a release from his contract for 2011.
The contracts of Paleaaesina, Bailey and Ainscough come to an end in November and the decision has been made by the Club that they will not be renewed.
Speaking about the departing players, Head Coach Michael Maguire said,
"We are sorry to see the departure of these four players and thank them all for their service to Wigan.
"We knew about Mark's situation in June and we will be sad to lose him but fully understand the reasons behind his decision.
"Feka Paleaaesina and Phil Bailey have both given exceptional service to the Club. Phil has been an extremely valuable member of the Senior Group and has shown his commitment to Wigan both on and off the field, particularly with his willingness to play out of position whenever called upon and his support of the younger players. Feka has added many special moments to games for Wigan fans and his popularity, good humour and sheer effort for Wigan have been exceptional.
"Whilst he played so well in the previous Season, Shaun Ainscough has played only once so far for the First Team in 2010 having spent a good proportion of the season under dual registration and on loan. The decision to release him to allow him to get Super League experience elsewhere was very difficult but we felt this was the right choice for Shaun and for the Club at this time in his career.
"It is never an easy decision to release players but under the constraints of the Salary Cap we will never be able to keep every young player who comes through our system and it is important to give them the chance to develop elsewhere. We hope Shaun does well and, as a Wiganer, he will always be welcome back at the DW Stadium.
"I wish them all well for the future and I know that all four players will want to end their time at Wigan with success as we now look forward towards the Play-Offs."
There are still players within the squad that the Club are talking to about new contracts. Announcements on the future of these players will be made in due course.
