Source: www.cowboys.com.auScans and X-rays have cleared North Queensland Toyota Cowboys back-rower Cory Paterson of a serious neck injury after he was taken to hospital following last night's NRL qualifying final against Manly.
It was originally feared Paterson, who was replaced early in the second half of loss to Manly, had suffered a cracked vertebra but the injury has been downgraded to a ligament problem.
The former Newcastle Knight spent last night in St Vincents Hospital and it's hoped he will be able to return to Townsville some time today.
It is likely he will be in a neck brace for a couple of weeks.

Knights discard Cory Paterson has returned serve to the club that dumped him after helping North Queensland to an upset 22-12 win over Newcastle.
Paterson scored the match-sealing try and made his feelings towards certain elements of the Knights club clear with an extended celebration.
"I love every one of them boys, but there's a few people I had to stick it up," Paterson told Monday Night Football on Triple M.
When asked if he was referring to the Knights recruitment team, he responded: "You can be the judge of that."
Paterson ended his post-try celebration by placing a hand to his ear, in what appeared to be a statement to the Newcastle crowd, however the Cowboys reserve made it clear his vitriol had nothing do to with the paying public.
"The Newcastle crowd are unbelievable, it wasn't directed at them, don't worry about that, because they're great people," Paterson said. "It was meant
for some other people. I'm sorry if I offended anyone in the crowd."
Ironically tonight was Paterson's first outing in Cowboys colours.
