North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, CEO Peter Parr today announced that Vice-Captain Aaron Payne would remain at the club for the next four years.

"We are delighted to have extended Aaron's tenure at the club."

"Being a wonderful player and a local junior made his signature a priority for the Toyota Cowboys," Parr said.

The 25-year-old hooker has been at the Toyota Cowboys for his entire first grade career and is one of the first players to come through the development system at the club.

Head Coach Graham Murray believes retaining Aaron is a significant move for the club.

"To have a player of his calibre who is an integral part of the team resign is a big plus leading into the new season."

Payne debuted for the Cowboys in 2002 and has played 110 first grade games for the club.

Cowboys and QNI 'Adopt a School Program'
Tue February 27, 2007

Sit ups and safety talks were the order of the day today when the highly successful NQ Toyota Cowboys and QNI Adopt a School program was officially launched.

Cowboys player Aaron Payne, joined BHP Billiton QNI Utilities Manager Paul Robinson, to meet students deliver safety and healthy living messages to St Joseph's Mundingburra school students throughout 2007.

Chief Executive Officer of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Peter Parr said:

"The BHP Billiton QNI Adopt-a-School program is one of the most important things our players do outside of playing football.

"It's great that the program continues to grow each year. You can judge your most successful programs on longevity and this program is now starting to fit into that category."

The program is entering its sixth year of operation and the third with the great support from QNI. The Adopt-a-School program has been structured to give primary schools throughout Townsville and Thuringowa access to school visits by a Cowboys player on a monthly basis.

QNI Yabulu Refinery Utilities Manager Paul Robinson said the company was looking forward to another successful year of the Adopt-a-School program with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys.

Mr Robinson said the refinery had chosen 39 employees to be Adopt-a-School representatives in 2007. They had each been assigned a participating local school, which they would regularly visit with their corresponding North Queensland Cowboy.

Mr Robinson said:

"Adopt-a-School is a wonderful way for Yabulu employees to become involved in the community and pass on important safety messages and health tips to students.

"Employees recognise the value of the program and it is pleasing to see so many of them are keen to get out into local schools and spread those important health and safety messages to young people."

The Adopt-a-School program will benefit boys and girls alike, as the players will be involved not only in physical outdoor sessions but also the academic and life education areas of their respective schools.
