Source: www.wiganwarriors.comWigan Warriors confirm the signing today of 23-year old Canterbury Bulldogs Centre, Cameron Phelps, for the remainder of the 2008 season with the option of a contract extension for 2009.
Phelps has been released early by the Bulldogs to enable him to take up the opportunity with the Warriors and he played his last game for the NRL club yesterday against Cronulla Sharks. He will arrive in the UK on Wednesday and has been registered by the Warriors for the Carnegie Challenge Cup so could make his debut in the game at Leeds this Saturday.
Phelps has represented Australia Schoolboys, New South Wales Under-17's, New South Wales Under-19's and Australia Under-19's and made his first team debut for the Bulldogs in 2005. Since then, he has played 39 first team games for the Bulldogs scoring 12 tries.
Speaking about the signing, Chairman Ian Lenagan said:
"We have had our eye on Cameron for a number of months as an inexpensive young player with speed and agility who can add competition for places in our back line this year. Hopefully, his performances this season with Wigan can then justify a contract extension.
"We would like to thank Canterbury for agreeing to release Cameron early."
Phelps added,
"I am excited about the prospect of playing for Wigan and, when I learned of the Warriors interest, it was an opportunity I just had to take. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Bulldogs but this is a real chance for me to prove my ability in Super League. I have agreed terms for the remainder of this season and it's up to me to impress and earn the chance to extend my stay at Wigan."

Source: www.bulldogs.com.auThe Mitsubishi Electric Bulldogs have today secured the services of experienced outside back Nick Younquest after agreeing to a release with his current club the West Tigers.
Younquest will join the Bulldogs for the remainder of the 2008 season and will commence training with the Bulldogs NSW Cup team early next week after their bye this weekend.
This deal was made possible after the Bulldogs agreed to a request from Cameron Phelps who sought a release from his current contract to take up an opportunity with English Super League Club Wigan.
"Cameron has requested an opportunity to further his career overseas, which we were more than happy to assist with given the right circumstances," said Bulldogs Chief Executive Mr Todd Greenberg.
"When Nick Younquest became available, we felt this was a suitable replacement to our playing roster and we were more than happy to grant the release on those grounds.
"Cameron has been a tremendous servant to this club, coming through the local junior ranks and going on to make a significant contribution in the senior grades. We wish him well in his future endeavours and look forward to welcoming Nick into the Bulldogs club."
Phelps will join the Wigan Warriors this season and will make a final appearance for the Bulldogs at fullback in next Mondays NRL clash against the Sharks at ANZ Stadium.
