SO Josh McGuire's selection in the Australian train-on squad was "a mistake"? Then why has he now pulled out of Samoa's tour of England and Ireland? ...
In case you missed it, the Brisbane prop was picked in the Australian Four Nations train-on squad despite being a current Samoan international. ARL chief executive Geoff Carr said he should not have been picked and the selectors simply made a mistake.
But now McGuire has mysteriously withdrawn from the Samoan side. Players are allowed one change of country per World Cup cycle and there's a belief in the Samoan camp that that is what McGuire is going to do.
Why should a powerful country like Australia deliberately give players an incentive to change their country of election by picking them in such squads? Sorry, accidentally....
Here at Discord, we'll give everyone the benefit of the doubt and say Josh's eye surgery is preventing him from playing any end-of-season football. But if he shows up in green and gold ... the ARL has long opposed allowing players to go back and play for their second country of eligibility if they miss out on selection in their first in any given year.
But they go and pick players who are someone else's!
Origin players get $10,000 a game. If that's not enough incentive anyway for NRL players to brush developing countries, I don't know what is. By the way, a bit of mail regarding the Samoan tour. After missing out on the Anzac Test, Frank Pritchard is changing countries from New Zealand to Samoa. And the game against England Knights is set to be switched from Coventry to Halifax.
And Daniel Vidot will play after Queensland threats forced him to withdraw last year. About a dozen players have pulled out but coach Daniel Anderson is still confident of taking away a strong squad. One Samoan domestic player will make the trip.
----------
I MUST say I'm very disappointed the Cook Islands v New Zealand Test has been cancelled.
I have flights and accommodation booked and I am inclined to go anyway. With no game on, next week's column might even be in on time! Just so you know, I'm also planning to be at Jamaica v South Africa in New Jersey, France v England in Avignon and Serbia v Italy in Serbia. So Discord is far from finished for the year.
----------
SO Tony Smith is not a fan of Club Call? I can understand him trying to distance himself from what is essentially a very adventurous gimmick. Golden point extra time is a gimmick too. Getting rid of the breakaways in 1907 and having four point tries were gimmicks too, I guess.
----------
I CAN understand how Kelly Clarkson is fresh and young but I am mystified that the NRL would turn down Alice Cooper as grand final entertainment. Why not have both of them? The League is in bed with Sony anyway, right?
By the way, Eskimo Joe are also playing. They are writing a theme song for the Fremantle Dockers, whoever they are.
----------
FEEDBACK time and Jeff, I suppose I have to learn not to worry if I'm going to hand similar advice to David Gallop! Mike, I'm like you - I hope it is all sorted out. I don't think most fans are aware of what a mess it is, they just assume we'll have a comp next year with an independent commission and that will be that. James when I spoke to David Garsey, he sounded neither confident nor pessimistic. I guess you're right - one year is not too much to ask. Then we'll have a REAL shitfight.

Source: www.bulldogs.com.auThe Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are set challenge the grading of a careless high tackle charge levelled at Frank Pritchard at the NRL Judiciary on Wednesday night, with Pritchard today named in the Bulldogs side to play Manly on Sunday.
The NRL match review committee charged Pritchard with a grade three careless high tackle for his hit on Shark Wade Graham in the Bulldogs 19-12 win at Toyota Park on Monday night, which carries a calculation of 175 points if found guilty.
A successful downgrade will allow Pritchard to take his place in the side to play the Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval. He will face the judiciary tomorrow night.
In other team news, coach Jim Dymock has retained Josh Reynolds at hooker with Joel Romelo to make his return from a one week suspension via the interchange bench on Sunday.
Also returning to the side is interchange forward Chris Armit, who missed Monday night's win with a strained calf muscle, while Dymock has retained Kris Keating and David Stagg, both of whom made successful returns from injury against the Sharks.
The selection of Armit and Romelo means Mickey Paea and Trent Cutler drop out of the 17 to play the Sea Eagles.
The Bulldogs NRL side to play Manly is as follows:

Dogs Get Troops Back in Toyota CupThe Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs welcome Josh Gill back into a 19-man Toyota Cup squad for Sunday's clash with Manly at Brookvale Oval.
Gill has been included on a six man bench after his recovery from short term injury. Joining him on the bench is Moses Mbye, who will play his first Toyota Cup match after overcoming an ankle injury suffered shortly after the end of the 2011 SG Ball season.
The Bulldogs bounced back to form with a 48-16 win over the highly fancied Cronulla Sharks on Monday night.
The win sees the Bulldogs move into outright sixth spot on the ladder with three games to play until the finals.
The Bulldogs team to play the Sea Eagles is:

In the NSW Cup, the Bulldogs are looking to hit back after a shock loss to the sixth-placed North Sydney Bears at North Sydney Oval on Sunday.
The Bulldogs retained top spot despite the 29-16 loss, remaining on 36 competition points, two clear of their next opponent, the Auckland Vulcans.
The Bulldogs will once again have the benefit of regular first graders Ben Roberts and Corey Payne for the clash with the Vulcans, to be played at The Crest on Saturday at 3pm, while Trent Cutler has also been named to make his return after playing NRL in each of the past two weeks.
The NSW Cup team is as follows:
