Former Newcastle crowd favourite, Adam "Mad Dog" MacDougall, is to become a Novocastrian again after agreeing to terms with the club.

A member of the 1997 & 2001 Premiership winning teams, MacDougall will all EnergyAustralia Stadium home again for at least a year, with a further 12 month option on his incentive-based contract in 2008.

"Adam's return to the club provides us with the experience and strike power that any NRL club requires," said Newcastle Knights Operations manager, Stephen Crowe.

"He's had his ups and downs throughout his career, but no-one can deny his ability to have a huge impact on a Rugby League game."

The former Kangaroo tourist boasts a representative career of 11 State of Origin's for New South Wales and 5 Tests, including the 2000 World Cup. The 32-year-old also shares the Knights record for the most tries in a match. (4 tries).

"As a two-time premiership winner with the club, Adam's place in our history is assured. Hopefully he can create some more highlights during the next season or two," Crowe said.

MacDougall's appointment allows the Newcastle Knights to provide one of its most loyal servants and former Clubman Of The Year with a fitting end to his career.

Matthew Gidley, a 213 game veteran has requested a release to take up a lucrative contract with English Super League Club, St Helens. That permission was officially granted today.

"We felt obligated to repay Matthew for the service he's given the Knights throughout his long and illustrious career with the club," said Newcastle Knights CEO, Ken Conway.

"The chance to finish his playing days in England will set him up for life and he deserves that opportunity."

Meanwhile, injured Knights Premier League hooker, Luke Quigley has secured his future, agreeing to terms for another year.

Quigley, who has played 40 First Grade games for the club, suffered a dislocated elbow against Manly in Round 17 while deputising for Blues Captain, Danny Buderus. He is expected to be back on the paddock in 1-2 weeks.

Premier League Hooker, Luke Quigley will fill the shoes of New South Wales Captain, Danny Buderus when the Knights play the Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval on Friday night.

Quigley's 40th First Grade game headlines a number of changes to the Novocastrian line up, with Kurt Gidley out for at least four weeks (Medial Ligament) and Buderus and Steve Simpson in Origin Camp.

"It's been a while since I've had a run in the top grade but I'm looking forward to the opportunity," Quigley said.

After a successful comeback from injury in Premier League against the Sharks, Jarrod Mullen finds himself in First Grade this weekend as Gidley's replacement, continuing his apprenticeship alongside Andrew Johns at Five-Eighth.

"You learn so much playing beside Joey, he's a great teacher and mentor," Mullen said.

"He takes you back to the basics and points things out that you should see but tend to overlook at times."

Other changes to the Knights line up include Todd Lowrie, back in the starting side for Steve Simpson, while rookie, Nathan Hinton, retains his spot at fullback for his third NRL appearance.

"Nathan has handled the First Grade Challenge well," said Knights Coach, Michael Hagan.

"He's been impressive since making his debut in Auckland and more game time will be good for his confidence."

After a week on the sideline with a shoulder injury, Utiliy forward, Riley Brown has been named on the Knights Interchange.

The Newcastle Knights depart EnergyAustralia Stadium on Thursday at 2.00pm.
