Huddersfield net Murphy as two playrs move on
Fri October 14, 2011

The Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Wildcats have concluded arrangements which see Andy Raleigh and Danny Kirmond join the Wildcats for 2012 with outside back Aaron Murphy joining the Giants until the end of the 2015 Super League season.

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis commented: "There has been much speculation surrounding these players recently and now that all paperwork is concluded and lodged at Red Hall both ourselves and the Wildcats can formally announce the changes to our respective squads."

"From our perspective it is no secret that the Giants were one of several clubs keen to sign Aaron at the beginning of this season. We are delighted that he has chosen to join the Giants."

"We approached Aaron earlier in the year when Wakefield were in Administration with permission from the administrators and to his credit he asked to see the year out with his teamates before wanting to come to us in the off season. While this announcement looks like a player swap the reality is all three players had several clubs keen to sign them."

"For the record we would like to thank both Andy and Danny for their excellent service to the claret and gold and wish them well in the future at a club that like ourselves looks to have exciting times ahead."

Wakefield Chief Executive James Elston commented, "Despite our best efforts I am disappointed that Aaron Murphy will no longer be a part of the future at Wakefield, however we are keen to make sure we stick to our philosophy of developing young British talent and I am confident the we have players, such as Danny Cowling and Lucas Walshaw, coming through that will fill those shoes."

"As a club we have set out to retain our youth and develop home grown talent however we are in a commercial industry and would be foolish to hold on to players who don't want to play at Wakefield."

"If we are to lose players we must get maximum value for our investment in that player, this deal gives us that. Both Andy and Danny have played well all year at the Giants and played in the final play-off games, proving the quality of the players that they are."

The Giants expect to be making further announcements in regards to the 2012 playing roster in the not too distant future.

Raleigh in Giants boost

Huddersfield Giants prop forward Andy Raleigh has committed his long-term future to the club with news of a three year extended contract to keep him at the Galpharm until the end of the 2013 season.

The 29-year-old has been a permanent fixture in Nathan Brown's team this year making the successful transition from the back to front row and his coach is pleased to see him remain:

"Andy is good for the club not only on the field but off the field as well. He is a good person, a good trainer and a consistent performer. He has played a similar role for a fair few years now in the back and front row and you know what you are getting week in week out with him. He ticks a lot of boxes for this club going forward."

Andy Raleigh commented:

"The deal has been done pretty quickly, and I'm absolutely delighted to know I'll be here for a further three years. To be honest, the negotiations didn't take too long, because I never wanted to go anywhere else. I love it here and it's been amazing seeing how the Giants have grown as a club since I've been here, and I didn't want to give that up.

"We've just kept on growing stronger and stronger and under Nathan Brown I know that process will continue, so to be wanted for a further three years is an incredible feeling. It's now up to me to make sure I keep repaying the faith the club have shown in me."
