Huddersfield release three players
Sat August 25, 2007
Source: www.giantsrl.com

Huddersfield Giants have confirmed that the following players will be leaving the club at the end of the 2007 season - Paul Reilly, Brad Drew and Chris Nero.

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis commented:

"Over the years each of the players have made a significant contribution to the development of the Huddersfield Giants which I am sure will be recognised and acknowledged by our supporters.

"Such has been the media speculation surrounding our players that we felt it appropriate to formalise this news now rather than at the seasons end so that we can all keep our focus on making the top six. It will also give all our supporters the opportunity to turn out in force at our final scheduled home game when we meet the Wakefield Wildcats (Sunday 9th September, KO 3pm) and give these players the send off they deserve.

"I am sure that our supporters will join everyone at the club in thanking the players for their service and wishing them well in the next stages of their careers."

Talks are ongoing with the clubs remaining out of contract players.

PAUL REILLY COMMENTS:
"I have had eleven fantastic years at the club and everyone knows how much Huddersfield means to me and my family. I will always be a Fartown Giant and am very proud of what I have achieved at my hometown club. To look at where we are now compared to when I started, the progression of the club has been almost unbelievable and my memories of the players and games I have played in will never fade. The supporters have always been great to me and I would like to thank them especially for their support of my testimonial. I am hoping to finish off with the Grand Final at Old Trafford."

BRAD DREW COMMENTS:
"I have had a great time at club but now is the time for me to move on. I would like to thank everyone at the Giants for giving me the chance to play in the Super League and to the fans for giving me such great support. I wish them all the very best for the future. Like the club my focus at the moment is solely on achieving a top six play-off place and then who knows how far we could go."

CHRIS NERO COMMENTS:
"Firstly I would like to thank everyone at the club including the fans for making my time so enjoyable, they have all made me and my family feel at home from the time we arrived. I feel I have improved a lot as a player in my time here and that is a lot down to the time and effort put in by Sharpy and the coaching staff! That is why my choice not to re sign was a difficult one although I feel the club is getting stronger every year and will be pushing for honours in both competitions next year, I just felt it was time for something different. My obvious highlights were the cup final in 06 although this year we have put ourselves in with a real shot at the play-offs so there should be some exciting times to come before I leave."

Reilly and St Hilaire spice up Giant West Yorkshire derby
Fri May 18, 2007

Friday nights engage Super League Round 14 fixture between the Giants and the Bulls brings together two local Huddersfield products Paul Reilly of Huddersfield and Marcus St Hilaire of Bradford. Both players came through the ranks with amateur side Moldgreen ARL to play for the Giants.

The two friends signed for Huddersfield two years apart from each other, St Hilaire in 1994 and Reilly in 1996. While Reilly went onto become the Giants longest serving player, St Hilaire signed for Leeds Rhinos two years later.

The two did play together again when mid-way through the 2002 season St Hilaire was released from the final year of his Rhinos contract and rejoined Huddersfield. In two spells with Huddersfield St Hilaire made 101 appearances, scoring 46 tries for a total of 184 points. Reilly who has just finished his testimonial year with the Giants and has found a new lease of life playing on the wing in 2007 and has played a major part in the Giants unbeaten eight game run.

Both players have been winding each other up before the game and intend to continue that on the pitch on Friday night. However while Reilly will enjoy a friendly bout of rivalry he knows that he and his team mates have a serious job to do:

"It'd be nice to get that first win against the Bulls tonight. I think that if we all stick to our jobs then we are in with a real chance. We're in good form at the moment but so are Bradford, but it would be very nice to beat them especially in front of the Giants fans here at the Galpharm and with the cameras being here."

Supporters are encouraged to pre-purchase their tickets and take advantage of the pre-matchday discounts and also be in with a chance of winning lunch with the Giants first team squad.

Tickets are available from the Galpharm Stadium Ticket Office with Children under 12 going free and pre-matchday discounts now available meaning a family of four can go to the game for 33 pounds. The Ticket Hotline is 0870 44 44 552.
