Storm extends Blair contract
Sat July 30, 2011
Source: www.melbournestorm.com.au

Melbourne Storm continues to build an impressive playing list, with Maurice Blair the latest to commit to the club for another year with an additional year option.

Blair, 26, has been one of the competition's most improved players in 2011, cementing his spot in the Storm starting team since debuting for the club against the Broncos in Round 9.

The Maryborough Junior has been a consistent contributor for the ladder leaders, adding invaluable depth and versatility to Craig Bellamy's squad.

His impressive form has also caught the eyes of Maroons selectors, after being including in the Queensland emerging squad.

Blair made the move to Melbourne at the end of 2010 after 48 NRL appearances for the Penrith Panthers. He has worked extremely hard since arriving last November and, under the tutelage of Craig Bellamy's football program, the powerful backline strike weapon has produced career-best football.

Melbourne Storm GM Football Operations, Frank Ponissi, today confirmed the signature of the exciting three quarter, along with an update on their future playing list.

"Retention has been the key focus for Melbourne Storm and we are delighted to add Maurice to the list of our key re-signings," Ponissi said.

"We have experienced significant losses over the past couple of years, but there is stability in our list now and we are in an extremely good position for next year and beyond.

"We are really disappointed to lose some players, nobody likes that part of the game, but that is unfortunate reality every club has to face.

"Equally importantly we have re-signed a number of players from our lower grades, with positive negotiations continuing and more good news on a number of our NYC players in the very near future."

Blair's signing is timely as the club prepares to launch it's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in the lead up to its Round 22 'Close the Gap' home game against the Panthers next Saturday.

RAP aims to bridge the gap between indigenous and non indigenous people. Blair will join fellow indigenous players Dane Nielsen, Beau Champion and Luke Kelly in the week's activities.

Upon the announcement of Blair's news, Melbourne Storm are also celebrating the re-signings of key players Bryan Norrie, Rory Kostjasyn and Sisa Waqa. All three have extended their contract for another season with an additional optional year, adding significant depth to the Storm list for 2012.
