Source: www.newcastleknights.com.auKnights centre, Adam MacDougall may not have been in a position to take part in Thursday night's Royal Shave but the dual Premiership winning veteran is making a major contribution to the team's fundraising efforts and has challenged sponsors and local businesses to follow suit.
MacDougall and his wife Belinda, who own GoFit Platinum, a chain of fitness equipment stores throughout Australia are donating $100 from every treadmill sale at their Kotara and Tuggerah stores from today until next Sunday, 14th June, 2009 to the Knights Royal Shave appeal.
The entire NRL squad shaved their heads at Westfield Kotara this week in support of the Starlight Children's Foundation and former team mate and Warriors forward, Jesse Royal, whose three year-old son, Matarae was recently diagnosed with a cancer of the immune system.
Around $6,900.00 has been raised so far through donations on the Knights website and bucket collections at Westfield Kotara and the Knights Under 20s will join the Cheer Squad at today's game for a blanket drive throughout the stadium.
MacDougall said he wanted to contribute regardless to help Jesse and Kylie Royal pay for expensive medical bills but was touched after learning the Starlight Children's Foundation struggles to find regular cash donations.
"Jesse and Kylie are great friends to many of us at the club and our hearts go out to them during this difficult time," he said.
"The Royal Shave was something we were able to do to engage people and raise awareness for two great causes.
"I was surprised to learn this week that the Starlight Children's Foundation has an ongoing battle to find cash donations so Belinda and I decided to donate $100 from every treadmill sale at Kotara and Tuggerah for the next week."
"I challenge other businesses to do likewise. Whether it's by making a donation or backing the boys with a hundred dollars for each try scored, every little bit counts."
