Prescott and Sculthorpe complete Paris to London challenge
Thu April 26, 2012
by rleague
Steve Prescott MBE and Paul Sculthorpe have completed their extraordinary 'Engage Mutual Paris to London: Marathon Challenge'.

Over the eight days the duo have run the Paris Marathon and the London Marathon, cycled the 261 miles between the two capital cities, and rowed across the English Channel.

"When we crossed the finish line in London the sense of achievement was simply awesome. We'd cycled for days, rowed the Channel and I managed a personal best time on the final day. I'm absolutely made up", said a proud Steve. "I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us and everyone that has donated".

The challenge included a unique rugby league assault on the English Channel where five former St Helens players rowed from Dover to Calais in 7.5 hours in gale force four conditions.

Steve and Paul are raising funds for The Steve Prescott Foundation whose beneficiary charities are Try Assist, the rugby league benevolent fund, and The Christie in Manchester, where Steve receives treatment for his terminal cancer.

The pair have so far raised over £18,000 and if you'd like to donate you can do so at www.justgiving.com/Steve-Scully

2008 Challenge Cup Post Match Comments
Sun August 31, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill
Post match comments from Daniel Anderson, Paul Wellens and Richard Agar following St Helens 28-16 victory over Hull FC to take out the 2008 Challenge Cup Final in front of 82,821 supporters.

St Helens Coach Daniel Anderson:

"We almost found a way to lose. I thought we squandered ample opportunities in the first half, we had genuine try-scoring plays.

"I had a real bad feeling at the start of the second half, I thought it was going to come back to bite us.

"We are a very good front-running team but I knew the first try would provide momentum for Hull.

"Credit to us. We were honest for 80 minutes and I think that got us through.

"It was a tough game, I don't think people realise how much the first half took out of us.

"I'm very proud and have been since I came to St Helens. I knew I was coming to a fantastically traditional club with some of the world's great players.

"I'll go home with some fantastic memories and have been very privileged to be the coach."

Lance Todd Trophy Winner Paul Wellens on the early injury to Paul Sculthorpe:

"I'm shattered for him.

"I've played with him for a long time. For the success he's had he's the most level-headed down-to-earth guy.

"We'll have a beer for him and try to put a smile on his face. Hopefully it's not as bad as first feared but that's rugby "

Hull FC Coach Richard Agar:

"We know we can compete on the big day against the good teams.

"It was there for all to see that we have makeshift players at half-back. This is our third final in four years and there's no reason we can't come back.

"We need to remember this and how it feels and we can't be happy with a brave effort. Next time we come back we want to win the game.

"I think it's indisputable that we gave it everything. I thought we showed tremendous commitment to each other, we were down 10-0 but managed to haul ourselves back into the game."

Agar on RIchard Horne's brave return:

"I thought his effort after what he has come back from, in a game like this, was enormous.

"That (the Graham tackle) might have been the best thing for him and I think it would have done his confidence the world of good.

"He got himself up and shook himself down. It was there for everyone to see how underweight he was and his fatigue at the end of the game cost us a little bit.
