Seage signs with Newcastle for another year

The Newcastle Knights are proud to announce David Seage has agreed to terms to stay at the club for another year.

Seage has emerged from a luckless run of injury to play career best football this season, and was instrumental in last weekend's win against the Panthers at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

Widely regarded as a classy fullback, he made his Knights and NRL debut in March 2004 against the Panthers at Panthers Stadium.

A former Queensland Resident Representative, the 27-year-old was born in Brisbane and played his junior football with Redlands.

Meanwhile, the Newcastle Knights trained for the final time this morning before a three day break over the bye weekend.

Specialist fullback, David Seage returns to the Newcastle playing ranks when the Knights play the Warriors at Ericsson Stadium this Sunday 18 June.

Seage injured his hamstring against the Raiders in Round 11 and has spent the last four weeks undergoing rehabilitation.

"I'm just looking forward to getting back on the paddock and finishing the year, hopefully, injury free," said Seage.

"The Warriors are a tough opposition in Auckland but there's added pressure for the First Grade fullback spot with Milton Thaiday nearing his comeback."

Coach Michael Hagan will travel across the Tasman with a re-shuffled 18 man squad.

Seage's return allows Kurt Gidley to move back to five-eighth.

"For the first time in weeks we're not scrambling to fill specialist positions which should give us an ideal preparation," said Knights Coach, Michael Hagan.

Josh Perry and Clint Newton join the starting side at the expense of Todd Lowrie and Adam Woolnough, named on the Interchange bench. Kirk Reynoldson has been named 18th man.

"We always travel to New Zealand with an 18th man but it's more timely this time around with our two key forwards involved in Origin."

A refreshed Knights squad resumed training yesterday after the bye weekend minus New South Wales Captain, Danny Buderus and back rower, Steve Simpson who return from Brisbane on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Knights Premier League side plays Balmain at EnergyAustralia Stadium this Saturday with free entry for spectators.

Gates open at 11am, kickoff at 12 midday.
