Source: www.parraeels.com.auBen Smith is poised to make his first Telstra Premiership appearance of 2008 after being named in the Pirtek Parramatta Eels team to play St. George-Illawarra at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.
Smith will line up alongside Jarryd Hayne in the centres for the Eels after making a successful recovery from off season knee and shoulder reconstructions.
It's the only new addition to a squad that also features hooker Mark Riddell, who missed the Eels 26-18 round eight victory over Penrith due to an ongoing sternum complaint, and wing Eric Grothe, who has overcome concussion.
"Ben brings a lot to the table in defence and attack and we're very glad to have him back," Eels head coach Michael Hagan said.
"He's worked incredibly hard to get to this stage and has had to overcome a number of setbacks, which is a testament to his strength and work ethic.
"He's a popular member of the team and he probably doesn't get the wraps he deserves.
"I have no doubt we're yet to see the best of Ben Smith and I'm looking forward to what he has to offer the team for the remainder of the season."
Taulima Tautai, Kris Keating and Todd Lowrie have been included on an extended seven man interchange bench for the clash with the Dragons, which kicks off at 3pm on Sunday.
The afternoon doubles as a Junior Rugby League appreciation day, with thousands of young players expected to be in attendance in recognition of the start of the junior club season.

Parramatta have received a major boost heading into tonight's crunch clash against Wests Tigers with four players today re-signing with the club for a further two seasons.
Ben Smith, Chad Robinson, Fuifui Moimoi and Jarryd Hayne were all announced as re-signings as the Eels expect a full house of around 20,000 tonight for the match against the defending Premiers.
Parramatta Chief Executive Dennis Fitzgerald said,
"These signings are great news for the club. These players will add to the tremendous stability amongst the playing roster for the coming years."There's no doubt that Ben Smith would have attracted interest from many clubs as he's one of the rising young and most powerful centres in the game today but Smith had no hesitation in signing with the Eels and not testing the open market.
Smith said,
"Parramatta gave me my first crack in the NRL and I always wanted to repay that. I consider myself a Parramatta player and it is great to have everything settled."Parramatta face a must win clash tonight and it's one of these back to the walls efforts that the Eels are famous for winning during the regular season round of matches. The Wests Tigers will be without captain Brett Hodgson and their best player Benji Marshall.
