Jim Beam Cup - A NRL Nursery
Thu July 19, 2007
Source: www.nswrl.com.au

This weekend two former Jim Beam Cup players in Eddie Su'a and Fred Briggs will complete their journeys to the NRL when they debut for Cronulla and the Bulldogs respectively.

Eddie Su'a played Jim Beam Cup for Cabramatta in 2004 and 2005 whilst Fred Briggs has played for the Sydney Bulls over the past two years and he played for South's in the Jim Beam Cup in 2004. Eddie Su'a started his representative career when he was only sixteen playing SG Ball for Parramatta. He then played 3 years of Jersey Flegg for the Western Suburbs Magpies before he relocated to the Cabramatta club where in 2004 he played his first Jim Beam Cup game. Eddie also represented NSW U17'S as a junior coming through the ranks. Eddie will start off the bench in Cronulla's match against Manly.

Fred Briggs has had to wait till the ripe age of twenty-seven to make his debut. Briggs will start from the bench for the Bulldogs against the Titans. The Jim Beam Cup competition has produced a number of NRL players; David Shillington (Sydney Roosters), Cameron Ciraldo (Cronulla Sharks), George Rose (Manly Sea Eagles) and Kevin Kingston (Cronulla Sharks) just to name a few.

As well as these current NRL players the Jim Beam Cup competition boasts a number of exciting young players who all have what it takes to make it to the top. Some of the exciting young prospects who have impressed during the ongoing Quad series are Brad Barrett (Erina Eagles), Charlie Herekotukutuku (Mounties), Brian Tritton (The Entrance Tigers), James Mortimer (Belrose Eagles) and Matt Gruszka (Cabramatta). The Jim Beam Cup side is undefeated in all of their games so far and will play NSW Country in the final on Saturday. As well as representing the Jim Beam Cup Rep side Matt Gruszka was also selected in the New South Wales resident's team.

The Jim Beam Cup is certainly an integral part of our game and it offers some very talented young players a chance to further their careers or even go all the way to the top.
