Source: www.rabbitohs.com.auThe South Sydney Rabbitohs will drop four players from its NRL side, as well as make a change to its captaincy, for this Sunday's game against the North Queensland Cowboys at ANZ Stadium at 3pm.
The Rabbitohs will make Ben Rogers, Jaiman Lowe, Eddie Paea and Fetuli Talanoa unavailable for selection this week, and David Kidwell will relinquish his co-captaincy, after breaches to the players' standards following the game against the Brisbane Broncos last Friday night.
The players, in consultation with the captains, set a standard of a zero breath-alcohol limit at the team's regeneration session on Saturday morning and these five players failed to meet that standard.
Rabbitohs Director of Football Operations Shane Richardson said:
"The players set themselves a standard which the club agreed with following last Friday night's game, and these players didn't meet these standards.
"We want to point out that the players didn't cause any trouble, however as a Club we take these standards very seriously and action has been taken to reflect our stance.
"The coaching staff feel very strongly about this as it goes to the heart of what we're trying to do here as a Club."South Sydney Football Club Executive Chairman Peter Holmes a Court said:
"We are seeking to be disciplined and professional in everything we do. This action by the Coach and the Football Department shows that we are serious about maintaining the standards set by the Club and the players each and every week."Head Coach Jason Taylor has promoted Dean Widders back into the NRL line up at five-eighth with Issac Luke shifting to halfback. The South Sydney Rabbitohs have one of the richest histories in Rugby League. Established in 1908, the South Sydney Club has won 20 first grade premierships and provided 62 internationals for the Australian side, and have famously worn their cardinal red and myrtle green colours since inception. The rebirth of the Rabbitohs began on 7 June, 2006 through a new partnership between Russell Crowe, Peter Holmes a Court and the then 8000 Members of the Club. The Rabbitohs made the semi-finals for the first time in 18 years in 2007, and have strengthened their season ticketed Membership to over 6,500 with over 12,000 total members in 2008.

Source: www.souths.com.auThe South Sydney Rabbitohs have re-signed boom outside-back Fetuli Talanoa until the end of the 2010 season, signaling the Club's intentions to shore up its junior talent for future years.
Talanoa, 20, came through the Rabbitohs junior representative sides and has cemented himself a place in the Rabbitohs backline over the past 12 months. Talanoa took over the fullback role in the Club's charge to the 2007 finals series, and has played in the fullback, wing and centre positions for the Rabbitohs so far in the Club's Centenary season.
Rabbitohs Director of Football Operations, Shane Richardson, said Talanoa's re-signing shows the Club's commitment to retaining its talented juniors.
"Fetuli has shown his continued allegiance to the Club by re-signing until the end of 2010, and we want to reward our talented young players with extended contracts," Mr Richardson said.
"He has proven himself to be a consistent first-grade player over the past two seasons and we believe he can develop his skills even further to higher representative honours.
"Fetuli was chased heavily by rival Clubs and he has re-signed with us for less money, showing his loyalty to the Rabbitohs and the confidence there is in the Club from the playing ranks.
"He is a great talent and we're very pleased he will be wearing the red and green for at least two more seasons after this one, and wherever possible we will be re-signing our junior stars to longer deals, especially when they want to stay with the Club. We believe we can build our Club around these young players."Talanoa joins John Sutton, Nathan Merritt and Craig Wing as South Sydney juniors who have signed extended deals with the Club, with Sutton, Merritt and Wing all signing with the Club until the end of the 2011 season.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs are the most successful Club in Rugby League. Established in 1908, the South Sydney Club has won 20 first grade premierships and provided 62 internationals for the Australian side, and have famously worn their cardinal red and myrtle green colours since inception. In 1925, South Sydney was dubbed 'The Pride of the League' and the Rabbitohs are known as this to this day. The rebirth of the Rabbitohs began on 7 June, 2006 through a new partnership between Russell Crowe, Peter Holmes a Court and the 8000 Members of the Club.
