Rhinos and Thackray agree to contract termination
Wed March 26, 2008

Leeds Rhinos and Jamie Thackray have mutually agreed to terminate the 28-year-old prop's contract and he will leave the club with immediate effect.

Thackray joined the Rhinos in 2006 from Hull FC on a three and half year contract. He played an integral part in the Championship winning campaign in 2007 when he featured in 27 games and scored 5 tries, but this season has been unable to break into the first team squad.

Commenting on the announcement Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said, "Unfortunately things have not worked out for Jamie but we wish him all the best for the future."

Meanwhile, Head Coach Brian McClennan has included prop Kylie Leuluai in his 19 man squad for this Friday's trip to St Helens however Lee Smith and Carl Ablett have both been ruled out.

Leuluai suffered a head injury in the Easter Thursday win over Bradford but has passed a Cogsport test to clear him to return to action.

Ablett and Smith have both suffered muscular strains that will not clear up in time for Friday's Grand Final repeat.

Youngster Ben Jones-Bishop has been drafted in to the squad as cover. The 19-year-old full back was a member of the Rhinos Senior Academy squad who reached the Grand Final last season and was recently promoted to the first team squad.

The 19 man squad in full is:

1 Brent Webb
2 Scott Donald
4 Keith Senior
6 Danny McGuire
7 Rob Burrow
8 Kylie Leuluai
9 Matt Diskin
10 Jamie Peacock
11 Jamie Jones Buchanan
12 Gareth Ellis
13 Kevin Sinfield
14 Ali Lauitiiti
16 Ryan Bailey
17 Nick Scruton
21 Jordan Tansey
22 Ryan Hall
24 Luke Burgess
28 Simon Worrall
34 Ben Jones-Bishop

Rhinos allow Thackray to find fresh challenge

Leeds Rhinos have announced that they will listen to offers for Great Britain prop Jamie Thackray.

The 28-year-old prop, who missed out on selection for last October's Grand Final, has featured in all three of the Rhinos pre-season games so far this season however following discussions with new Head Coach Brian McClennan, the Rhinos have agreed to his request to join a new club.

The Rhinos will play Oldham this Sunday at Headingley Carnegie in a Testimonial game for skipper Kevin Sinfield and McClennan has named the team that won the title at Old Trafford as his first choice team.

Commenting on the announcement Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said, "We have a very competitive squad here at the Rhinos, the strength of which was demonstrated last year when we won the Grand Final. Since then Nick Scruton has returned from injury and Luke Burgess has been very impressive in pre-season.

"Brian and Jamie have had a very honest discussion and Brian can not guarantee Jamie's desire for regular first team rugby. Therefore, we have agreed to his wish to talk to other clubs. Jamie will remain a part of the Rhinos first team squad in the meantime,"
added Hetherington.

Thackray joined the Rhinos at the end of the 2006 season from Hull FC. He missed just five games last season for Leeds including the three play off games.
