Hull FC agree to terms with Tickle
Thu October 19, 2006
Source: www.hullfc.com

Hull FC can confirm Danny Tickle has signed a two year contract with the club.

The 23-year-old second rower, who was released by Wigan Warriors in September, has today agreed terms at The KC Stadium.

Tickle, an excellent goalkicker, is the second Wigan player to make the move to East Yorkshire for 2007 after Wayne Godwin agreed terms.

Tickle, said: "I had other offers, but I was really pleased when Hull came in for me, they are a top club and they have shown in the last couple of years they are up there with the best.

"The team have had another good year and the signings for next season show the club want to go forward again in 2007. I've got a lot of time for Peter Sharp, he told me what he expects and I'm determined to work hard to get into his team."

Wigan born Tickle will move to Hull to live, but he has already played with a number of Hull's squad.

Tickle added: "I enjoy playing with Wagga (Wayne Godwin) - he is a good lad. From the current squad I've also played with Lee Radford, Shaun Briscoe and Shayne McMenemy so that will help me settle in."

Danny moved to the JJB Stadium in 2002 from Halifax despite interest from other Super League sides, including St Helens. He performed well enough to earn a new two-year contract in July 2004. The following season, Danny picked up the Wigan Supporters' Association Player of the Season award.

Wigan released him recently with Brian Noble stating "We are naturally sorry to lose Danny. Not only has he been a good player for us but he is also one of the best goal kickers in the country."

Danny has played for England A against New Zealand at Brentford in November 2002, kicking 4 goals. He toured Fiji and Tonga with England A later that year. He made 3 appearances on the tour, scoring tries against Fiji and Tonga. He was later named in the 2003 England A squad to face Australia and in the European Nations Cup, scoring 54 points on the way to England's victory. Danny also represented Lancashire in the 2003 Origin match.

Hull FC Head Coach Peter Sharp, said: "Danny isa good young player with ambition and that is exactly what we want. He is looking to put his career back on track and he will certainly bring something different to the squad we already have. Danny is also an excellent goalkicker and as everyone knows we are short in that department should Paul Cooke get injured, we don't have a natural replacement."

Wigan release Danny Tickle
Mon September 18, 2006
Source: www.wiganwarriors.com

The Wigan Warriors today confirmed that a new contract would not be offered to Second Row Forward Danny Tickle.

Commenting on the announcement, Chairman Maurice Lindsay said,

"We have put together a four year plan and for the past few weeks we have been extending contracts of most of our young players in an effort to bring stability and permanency to the side. We are trying to plan right through to 2010."

Lindsay continued,

"We will be announcing that structure over the next few weeks but sadly we are unable to include Danny Tickle as we work to remain within the salary cap. The salary cap figure for 2007 is only £1.6 million and so we will be forced to release some players. We have several players on loan to other clubs and until their future plans are finalised we cannot determine our final squad. We also await the outcome of the Grand Final Play-Offs to Super League."

Head Coach Brian Noble said,

"We are naturally sorry to lose Danny. Not only has he been a good player for us but he is also one of the best goal kickers in the country. He is a victim of the need to remain within the salary cap but we wish him well and thank him for his contribution here."
