Source: www.superleague.co.ukHull FC assistant coach Lee Radford turned back the clock to score one of his side's six tries as they enjoyed a thumping derby victory over Hull KR.
Hull's win was hard-fought in a game that for long periods failed to live up to its pre-match billing as the biggest derby in rugby league.
But, led by Radford, who came out of retirement to aid Hull in an injury crisis which ruled out eight players, FC finally got the better of their dogged opponents in the closing quarter of the game as they racked up the points.
Hull coach Peter Gentle was left to celebrate a first derby win, which lifts his side back into Stobart Super League's top two, while Rovers coach Craig Sandercock will take his team to Salford City Reds on Easter Monday knowing they need to improve on their tally of just three wins so far this campaign.
A scrappy opening 40 minutes dominated by two robust defences finally came into life as the first half staggered to what had looked like being an unsatisfying conclusion.
Former Hull player Craig Hall, who earlier in the game had been guilty of knocking on with the try line at his mercy, rose highest to touchdown for the opening try of the match for the Robins.
Hall's perfectly-timed run saw him meet the kick of Aussie scrum-half Michael Dobson and unchallenged, the winger placed the ball down directly in front of the Hull fans who had once cheered him.
Hull wasted little time in registering their response as assistant coach Radford marked his first Super League game in six months with a try by the posts.
Radford, back on the field after studding his first spell with a series of barnstorming runs, took the ball two metres from the Rovers try line and then took three KR defenders with him as he crashed over.
Given the nip-and-tuck nature of the opening 40 minutes, parity on the scoreboard was a fair reflection heading into the break.
That parity lasted just 60 seconds of the second half however and, when Rovers prop Scott Wheeldon spilled the ball in front of his own try line, Hull made their rivals pay through Jordan Turner's try.
Casting off the shackles of the opening 40 minutes, both sides came to life as Hull began to show the type of form which had taken them into the top two, while Rovers offered the promise their lowly league position will be temporary.
Behind on the scoreboard for the first time, Sandercock's men had their opportunities to strike back.
Profligacy struck, though, and they saw that opportunity pass by when full-back Shannon McDonnell and hooker Lincoln Withers spurned chances.
KR's task in hand only got harder when a penalty for infringement in the tackle handed Hull goal kicker Danny Tickle an easy two-pointer in front of the posts to extend his side's lead.
Leading by two scores, Hull's confidence grew and soon they were the dominant force as they enjoyed set after set inside the Rovers half. Having forced two drop-outs, Hull then hammered the nail in the coffin of Rovers with four tries inside the last 20 minutes.
Turner was handed time and space out wide to go over for his second try of the match.
Quick tries in succession for homegrown favourite Kirk Yeaman and Hull scrum-half Brett Seymour then made certain of the result before Turner capped a hat-trick with a 70-metre run down field after the final hooter had gone.

Source: www.superleague.co.ukHull FC proved they are capable of winning without playmaker Sean Long as they got back to winning ways against Harlequins RL at a freezing and rain-soaked KC Stadium.
After impressive successes in their first two fixtures, Hull's bubble was burst last weekend when, without the injured Long, they were surprisingly beaten 18-16 by the Crusaders RL.
That posed many questions about how capable they were of performing without their skipper but, despite Long's absence and the omission of understudy Jordan Tansey for disciplinary reasons, Richard Agar's men provided the right answers tonight.
The performance of debutant Jordan Turner, who played out of position in the halves, will have particularly pleased Agar, but there was little for opposite number Brian McDermott to smile about as his men slumped to a third defeat in four games.
They stepped out of the competition last weekend to provide warm-up opposition for Gillette World Club Championship side Melbourne Storm and appeared to still be in training mode for the majority of this tie as Hull dominated possession.
The opening try came from rugged Australian veteran Craig Fitzgibbon - his first in the English game - as he went 20 metres to the line after Willie Manu broke free thanks to Richard Whiting's delightful delayed pass.
Danny Tickle added the goal and would have laid on a try for Craig Hall moments later had his pass not been deemed forward, but it mattered little as Kirk Yeaman posted his third score of the season from close range when he took in Shaun Berrigan's bullet pass.
Harlequins' response should have been instant but Luke Williamson dropped David Howell's pass a metre from the line, while at the other end video referee Ian Smith deemed that Hall had not grounded his own kick through the line.
Hall got the try his efforts deserved five minutes after the break as Turner broke away from the base of a scrum to send him racing 50 metres through a gaping hole, before Tickle plundered over from close range as Quins fell apart.
Tony Clubb did get the London side on the scoreboard with 15 minutes left, although video replays suggested it was Whiting and not Clubb that got to the England wing's kick first.
But Richard Horne dummied his way over from 10 metres out to get Hull moving again and they could have added a further score before the finish if Tickle had grounded Horne's kick correctly.
