Walker seriously injured at training
Tue November 6, 2007

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans flyer Chris Walker has suffered a serious injury on day one of the Gold Coasts clubs 2008 Pre-season training camp.

Walker was taking part in a routine beep test when he suffered a suspected ruptured Achilles tendon.

The former State of Origin representative will visit a specialist this morning with surgery scheduled for this evening. Chris will be sidelined for an extended period of time.

It's a bitter blow for Walker who had performed strongly during the days activities and looked set to press for a starting position in the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans pre-season campaign.

Walker said, "I can't believe my luck, I have been doing everything right and was really looking forward to the year ahead, this is just a crushing blow." I'm confident in the medical team and if everything goes well, I will be back running during the early rounds of the NRL season.

"I am determined to make a positive impact at the club this year and I will do everything required to ensure I am back and pushing for a first grade starting team,"
said Walker.

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans Coach John Cartwright said the injury was a big blow for both Chris and the squad, but it will create even more competition for starting positions amongst the clubs outside backs.

Cartwright said, "I was really excited by the way Chris was approaching the season and by what he could have done for us this year and to have him suffer such a serious injury on day one of the pre-season training is obviously disappointing.

"I am hopeful Chris will make a speedy recovery from this injury and will be back training with us in the not too distant future.

"It's always tough when you lose a dangerous and experienced player of Chris's ability, however we have some exciting young players and some extremely talented new recruits in the full time squad this season and it's now time for one of them to put their hand up and stake a claim for first team selection."

Walker in starting side for Titans
Tue July 24, 2007
by Matthew O'Neill
Chris Walker has been promoted to the starting side for Gold Coast's crunch match against South Sydney on Saturday night at Telstra Stadium.

Walker came off the interchange bench in his return match to the NRL against the Bulldogs last week after breaking his wrist following the Titans opening match in Round 1 and than landing himself in hot water after an off-field incident.

Preston Campbell has been moved from fullback to five-eighth and Matthew Hilder drops back to the bench.

Both sides are two points outside the top eight on 18 points and a loss for either side will see them drop out of Finals contention.
