Australia loose forward Anthony Watmough believes his side are fully prepared for a Kiwis backlash when the southern hemisphere giants get the Gillette Four Nations Series under way in Warrington.
The Kangaroos take on New Zealand less than a fortnight after beating them 42-6 in Newcastle, but Watmough insists any prospect of complacency was erased within seconds of the final whistle at Ausgrid Stadium.
"As soon as the game finished we got in a huddle and spoke about how they were going to come out so much more fired up next time," Watmough said.
"We're preparing like we prepare every time we play New Zealand, it will be a very tough battle."
New Zealand coach Stephen Kearney has made two changes for the rematch, replacing the suspended Russell Packer with Ben Matulino and recalling Wigan half-back or hooker Thomas Leuluai for his 28th cap.
Manly's Watmough has already got the better of Matulino this month courtesy of his side's NRL Grand Final triumph over the New Zealand Warriors, but is full of respect for the 22-year-old from Wellington.
"His form leading up to the Grand Final was amazing," Watmough said.
"Some of his hits and carries were top notch and we'll have our work cut out with him."
Unsurprisingly, Australia coach Tim Sheens opted to name an unchanged team, holding back centre Greg Inglis for the Wembley clash with England, but Watmough admits he was fretting over the announcement.
The 28-year-old back rower made his debut for the Kangaroos in the 2008 World Cup but missed out on the Anzac Test earlier this year as well as last season's Four Nations after experiencing a loss of form.
Watmough was back to his best in the second half of the season with both the Sea Eagles and New South Wales, however, and is determined to savour his recall to the international scene.
"I was a bit nervous up to yesterday because Tim had kept his cards close to his chest and there are so many quality guys waiting in the wings," he said.
"When he told me I'd kept my spot, I was over the moon. I was pretty lucky with the way we finished the year. Our team was playing good footie.
"It was good to get back in the Test team, especially after missing out earlier in the year. When I first got picked I didn't really embrace what it was all about.
"As you get a bit older, you realise what it does mean and I'm going to cherish every moment. When I got back in, it was probably the highlight of my career."

IT wasn't so long ago that players caught having a leak in public would only have to look over their shoulder to find someone willing to defend them.
"We've all done it," came the chorus from a group of people that, at times, included me. So it's been intriguing this week to see the reaction to the "indiscretions" of Anthony Watmough and Terrence SeuSeu. Peter Sterling, for instance, said he had been known to take a whiz behind a tree on a golf course - but never in the main street of a Sydney suburb like these two apparently did.
No-one is defending them. Des Hasler and Scott Penn have even suggested they may have their contracts torn up. It seems we have all "moved on" from the belief that footballers are just being victimised by the media for incidents which would barely raise an eyebrow if involving your average Joe. The majority of us now accept that being a role model is not optional when your entire pay packet comes from people for watching you "at work".
Todd Carney was in court today. I haven't heard anyone decry the number of cameras waiting for him outside or talk about how common drink driving really is. Those arguments, for whatever reason, no longer seem relevant. As a society, as I said, we've moved on from them.
All of which makes the Warriors' signing of Shaun Metcalf intriguing from a media and sociology point of view. Here is a guy who, while just a teenager, was involved with two mates in assaulting his then-girlfriend in an attempt to make her miscarry. It was an appalling crime, obviously. He and his mates did time. Those close to him say he will forever be haunted by what he did and argue that if society is willing to give him another chance, so should football.
But the New Zealand Rugby League deliberated long and hard in 2005 before even letting him play the game at a semi-amateur level.
If you're waiting to see what my point is here, I don't have one. It's YOUR point to make. On one hand we threaten players with the sack for taking a leak in public - albeit the latest in a long line of misdemeanours - because society's rules and punishments don't apply to role models. On the other, we USE society's rules and punishments to justify allowing someone guilty of a ghastly crime back into the game.
You are the barometer of what is acceptable, not me. Tell me what you think. Are there crimes that can be committed which rugby league should not forgive, even if the player or administrator has done time as penance? John Elias, for instance, talks in his book about Wayne Bennett telling him he cannot hire him as assistant coach because of his record....
Over to you...

LAST week's column was filed somewhat late. It should have been just a bit later ? in which case we could have addressed Widnes being admitted to Super League and new concussion rules being introduced for the NRL.
Widnes' return is long overdue. I'm really looking forward to the first cross-border 'derby' with Crusaders, who the Vikings believe got "their" spot in Super League a couple of years back. It will be interesting to see if Halifax also get a licence but I'm a little dismayed that we don't have another serious contender from an expansion area.
----------
As for the concussion rules - and I make this point in today's
Rugby League Week - take a bow Dr Jack Kazandjian. Everyone, including me, had a laugh when he ran on the field and stopped the United States-Jamaica Atlantic Cup game in November last year because Jermaine Wray had copped a head knock. Wacky, litigious Americans, right?
Five months on, the NRL has proven Dr Jack right - and the competition's chief medical officer Ron Muratore says the same thing could happen here. At some point in the near future, I'll try and track Jack down for a comment.

FEEDBACK now and Scott,
The Australian reported last week that Canterbury Leagues Club was one of several licensed clubs Cronulla Leagues had approached about a merger. I specifically asked Sharks chairman Damian Irvine for an RLW Club Call before that story appeared whether any of the organisations he approached had football teams. "Not in the NRL," he replied.
He also assured me that any merger would be off-field and have no impact on football.
Gee, as I've said before, I think David has done well and would do even better with the independence the IC would confer on him. And the reason Cronulla Leagues is seeking a merger is to improve their cash-flow situation.
Jeff, agree with everything you've written. Well done. I have missed the last two Four Nations finals due to recreational pursuits but I will be changing my plans this year if Darren is fit and touring to be there at his last game.
Thankyou to Matteo Visona for his feedback and to the readers who contacted him. The stand-off continues...
Buttery, no league on TV in Papua New Guinea?? Jeez, that's the thin edge of the wedge isn't it. I'll chase it up with the NRL. Which reminds me, clubs that host MNF get cash, not contra, according to John Brady at the League.
