Webster reunited with Agar at Wakefield
Fri September 30, 2011
New Wakefield Trinity Wildcats head coach Richard Agar has appointed former Parramatta and Hull KR scrum-half James Webster as his assistant.

Webster, 32, was Agar's number two at Hull FC for the last two years and today quit the club with 12 months left on his contract to link up with his old boss at the Wildcats on a three-year deal.

"I'm really excited about joining the Wildcats," he said. "I have had many discussions with Rich about the club and it is certainly something that he speaks very highly of."

Wakefield have offered a backroom role to Paul Broadbent, who was assistant to former head coach John Kear, and say he is on holiday considering his response.

Hull FC assistant coach James Webster has pledged his future to the club after agreeing a new deal at the KC Stadium.

The Black and Whites No.2 has signed a one-year extension to his current contract meaning he will stay with FC until the end of the 2012 season.

"I am really happy to be offered a new deal and I look forward to continuing to work alongside Richard and the rest of the coaching team", said the 32-year-old, former scrum half.

"This is a great opportunity for me to be part of a club that continues to get bigger and better."

He continued, "I have really enjoyed my time so far since returning to the club and I feel we have a good young squad here that are capable of achieving good things and that is something I am thrilled to be part of."

Webster joined Hull FC's coaching staff midway through 2010 after agreeing a release from his playing contract at the Widnes Vikings, for whom he signed after leaving Hull as a player in 2008.

His stint with FC was limited to just one game due to visa difficulties, ironically coming against his first Super League club and arch rivals Hull KR where he spent three years and had a brief spell as coach.

He arrived in the UK in 2005 after representing the Balmain Tigers and Parramatta Eels, making nearly 200 senior appearances in total in his career.

Whilst Hull became his first full-time coaching position, it was certainly not his first taste of coaching experience.

A brief caretaker stint in charge of Rovers was also followed by work with the RFL's coach development team, as well as voluntary work behind the scenes with the Black and Whites helping to nurture some of the club's young talent.

After retaining Webster's services as his right hand man, head coach Richard Agar commented, "James has a smart football brain and has proven to be a really good fit for us.

"He is hard working, conscientious and trustworthy and has a tremendous passion for the game of rugby league.

"His work ethic is second to none and he is developing very well as a coach."

Black and Whites Chief Executive James Rule also added, "James has highlighted his commitment to achieving the highest of standards as a coach with Hull FC.

"He has vast experience in the game and has become a valuable asset to Richard and the rest of the coaching staff, not only at first-team level, but throughout the club."

Having now had the chance to impress in his new role alongside Agar, the Black and Whites have opted to extend his deal to retain his services for another year and a half ensuring that Hull have one of the youngest and most exciting looking coaching rosters in the competition.

With Webster's experience from the NRL and as one of Super League's most experienced half-backs, Andy Last's keen eye for helping to develop the club's youngsters and Agar's club and regional coaching pedigree that saw him short listed for the England National team job, FC certainly have a group with a bright future.
