Source: http://www.hullkr.co.ukHull Kingston Rovers can confirm that James Webster has been released from the remaining six months of his contract due to serious shoulder ligament damage.
James has undergone surgery and is expected to be sidelined for at least three/four months.
The former Parramatta Eels halfback signed for the Robins in 2005 and has played a pivotal role in the renaissance of the club over the last four seasons.
Playing 98 games in his career at Craven Park the Australian halfback was instrumental in the side reaching Super League at the end of 2006 and retaining Super League status last year.
During that period he captained the side and was a terrific leader for the club.
Neil Hudgell, Hull Kingston Rovers Chairman, said; "It is extremely disappointing for both James and the club that we have to announce his departure in such unfortunate circumstances. James has been a leading light in the improving fortunes of this club. He came to the club at the most challenging of times and has built up a great reputation in and around the city. Not only has he been a front line performer on the field, he has been a fantastic ambassador for the club off it."
"I am absolutely certain that our supporters will wish to join me in thanking James for his outstanding contribution and to wish him well in the future in whatever he decides to do."
Hull Kingston Rovers Head Coach Justin Morgan remarked: "James has been a fantastic player for this club, his great service on and off the park has been outstanding, climaxing when we won promotion to the Super League in a man of the match performance in the Grand Final."
