Rabbitohs Signings and Extensions
Mon September 15, 2008
Source: www.rabbitohs.com.au

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have confirmed the signing of outside back Chris McQueen for the 2009 and 2010 seasons, as well as the extensions of a number of promising players coming through the ranks at the Rabbitohs.

Currently wearing the red and green of Wynnum-Manly in the Queensland Cup, McQueen has signed a two-year deal with the Rabbitohs.

Originally from Kingaroy, McQueen can play wing, centre or fullback and will train as part of the Rabbitohs' full time squad next season. This year he has been one of the Seagulls' most potent attacking weapons playing 19 games in the Queensland Cup and developing into a damaging ball runner with a strong defensive game.

The Rabbitohs have also extended the contracts of Toyota Cup captain Jason Clark, utility back Malcolm Webster, centre Taioalo Vaivai, and utility Dave Tyrrell. Clark, Webster and Vaivai have all been extended until the end of the 2010 season, with Tyrrell being extended until the end of 2009.

The Rabbitohs have also signed young prop Josh Starling from the NSW South Coast. The 18-year old played SG Ball for the Illawarra Steelers before being brought into the Rabbitohs Toyota Cup squad for 2009 and 2010.

"We're pleased to be able to add to our senior squad with players of this calibre," Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson said.

"Chris McQueen has been a quality player for Wynnum over the past couple of seasons and we feel that he can add some depth to our outside backs next season.

"Guys like Jason Clark, Mal Webster and Dave Tyrrell have excelled in the Toyota Cup this year and we see them having a bright future with our Club. Junior Vaivai's season was cut short by injury this year but he is an exciting player and we're looking forward to seeing him back on the field next year. Starling is a very good, young front row prospect from the South Coast and we're keen to see him develop over the next couple of seasons.

"The full time, Toyota Cup and rookie squads that we're putting together for next year are strong and we're looking forward to the players returning to training in November."
