Hull FC captain Lee Radford and Richard Whiting both face long spells out through injury and will miss the clubs warm weather training camp.

Radford had his broken thumb pinned and will be out for seven to eight weeks and Whiting, who has had a plate put in his broken arm, has been ruled out for four months.

The pair was casualties in last weekend's trial game against Huddersfield Giants at the KC Stadium.

New signing, Australian Test hooker Shaun Berrigan was also injured in a 30-22 defeat against the Giants and he has gone to Leeds today for a scan on his shoulder.

Hull, who fly out to Portugal on Thursday for a weeks training have other injuries.

Great Britain international Richard Horne is having a scan tomorrow on a foot injury and his international partner Gareth Raynor picked up a hamstring injury against the Giants.

Willie Manu and Matt Sing are both under treatment for foot injuries, Graeme Horne has a pectoral injury but all three are expected to be fit for Hull's final trial game against Doncaster on January 27th.

Whiting signs with Hull FC
Fri August 31, 2007
Source: www.hullfc.com

RICHARD Whiting revealed today, he was delighted and relieved after signing a new two year deal.

The 22-year-old utility player will be staying with Hull FC until the end of 2009 at least, but he admitted he was more than a little worried when the club hadn't spoken to him earlier in the season.

"I am delighted it is now all sorted but I have to admit I did wonder if I would be offered a new deal earlier in the year," he revealed. "I was low on form and had a couple of injuries and nobody had approached me about a contract.

"Now I can fully focus on helping the club finish the season in style. We have put ourselves in a great position and we are confident we are capable of going on and reaching the Grand Final again."

Chief executive James Rule said: "We're pleased Richard is staying on board because he has proved an invaluable member of the squad.

"His versatility is a big asset and he is a young player with ambition and a desire to work hard and improve."

Whiting, who joined Hull from home-town club Featherstone Rovers as an 18-year-old said: "It doesn't seem four years, the time has flown and the club has come a long way.

"I really feel the club is going places and that's why signing a new two year deal is so exciting because I can be part of it.

"During my time here we have already won the Challenge Cup, reached the Grand Final, and I'm confident more is to come."

Whiting accepts he will have to battle for his place, adding: "Being with a successful club does bring its pressures but it also brings an incentive to improve and develop as an individual.

"I have come a long way over the last four years but I feel I have a lot more improvement in me.

"With the quality of players and coaching staff we have at the club and are bringing into the club I am confident I can reach the standards I have set myself."

Whiting also wants to extend his international appearances; he has made three for England, and said: "Having represented England I would like to play for my country again and being with a big, ambitious and successful club can only help my aspirations."
