Tonga to miss 3-4 weeks with a knee injury

North Queensland centre Willie Tonga is set to miss the next 3-4 matches due to a knee injury.

Tonga scored a try in the Cowboys one point loss against Brisbane, but his troublesome knee pulled up sore and has been forced out after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.

The Cowboys signed Tonga from the Bulldogs where he missed much of the 2008 season due to injury and it appears the change of environment hasn't stopped his injury woes.

North Queensland coach Neil Henry said, "Willie Tonga is definitely not playing he has had an arthroscope on his knee in bit of a clean out from a previous operation which was something that had been annoying him.

"We were able to do it because he had a reasonably substantial tear in his groin from last week's game so that was going to keep him out for three to four weeks so we got the knee cleaned out at the same time.

"He could of played on with his knee but the fact he has hurt his groin we might as well clean it out because it was ongoing management."

"He is disappointed and we are too because he was in a bit of form last week he caused a few problems of the Broncos' defensive line and scored that nice try on the left edge."

John Williams, brother of Manly's David Williams has been called into the Cowboys starting side to play against the Wests Tigers tomorrow night at Dairy Farmers Stadium where he'll play on the wing with former Queensland flyer Ty Williams moving into the centres.

The Cowboys home match against the Wests Tigers kicks off at 8:30pm Queensland time with a big crowd expected to watch the Johnathan Thurston and Matt Bowen show.
