Hull KR sign Lincoln Withers
Fri September 30, 2011
Source: http://www.hullkr.co.uk

Hull Kingston Rovers can confirm that they have agreed a two-year deal with former Crusaders hooker, Lincoln Withers.

The 30-year-old Australian made 154 appearances in the NRL with Wests Tigers, St George Illawarra and Canberra before joining Crusaders ahead of their debut Super League season in 2009. He went on to become a mainstay of the Welsh outfit and was the subject of plenty of interest when the club from the principality withdrew from Super League at the end of the 2011 campaign.

However, the Robins' directors and new Head Coach, Craig Sandercock, met up with Withers in Sydney last week to tie up a deal and he will be the club's fourth close-season signing, joining former Crusaders team-mate Ryan O'Hara and ex-Huddersfield duo, Graeme Horne and David Hodgson.

Sandercock is delighted to have captured Withers' signature and said:

"I'm excited about the signing of Lincoln. He is an experienced player with over 200 games combined in the NRL and Super League. He's proven to be a quality player over a long period and will definitely be an asset to Hull KR. I believe he still has plenty of great rugby ahead of him, and his leadership and ability to make correct decisions under pressure are excellent traits that he will bring to our club."

Withers set to return against Saints

Crusaders have announced their 19-man squad for this Friday's Engage Super League clash against St Helens (KO 8PM).

Head coach Iestyn Harris can recall on the services of Lincoln Withers and Jason Chan for the trip to the Stobart Stadium.

Withers is back after a five-week lay-off with a hamstring injury, whilst Jason Chan is back after a leg injury.

Their return means Adam Peek and Gil Dudson drop out of the 19-man squad to face the Saints.

Crusaders winger Stuart Reardon has settled well into his new surroundings following his move to the Racecourse Ground.

The Great Britain international has bagged seven tries in 13 appearances for Super League's only Welsh side, and admits he is enjoying life under his former Bulls team mate and Crusaders head coach Iestyn Harris.

"It's a great camp to be around," Reardon said.

"The lads are great and the coaching staff are brilliant. The training facilities are fantastic. I am enjoying my rugby and there is a really good atmosphere at the club.

"The club are building a fanbase and there is a lot o excitement about having us here in Wrexham. They're beginning to understand what rugby league is all about anf the club are working really hard to try and promote the game.

"Rugby League needs to expand if the game is to grow and get bigger. The club did tremendously well last year and the national team have been improving year by year. There are a lot of young Welsh players at the club who are making great strides and these are exciting times. I think the future looks very bright for the Crusaders.

"The team spirit is high, especially after the Wakefield result. We've had a good week off and everyone is feeling refreshed and looking forward to facing St Helens on Friday.

Reardon added: " Iestyn Harris is a great coach. I've only been here a few months but he's been fantastic. I've played alongside Iestyn in the past and he's just as professional now as he was back then.

"The move here has been a fresh start for me. I've had a tough couple of years with injuries and I felt like I didn't perform to the best of my abilities last year. This is a new chapter for me and I'm enjoying the challenge.

"St Helens are a dangerous side. They're a team that you never write off they look strong again this year. They've really recruited well and they will definitely be there or thereabouts come the play-offs. We've got a few players back from injury and after the win over Wakefield we're heading into this game with a lot of confidence."
