Source: www.league.quins.co.ukHarlequins have begun strengthening their squad for the 2012 season by signing two Crusaders players. Australian prop Mark Bryant, who has been an ever present with the Welsh outfit during their three years in Super League, has agreed a two year contract. Crusaders stand off Michael Witt, 27, has signed on a three year deal with Quins.
Bryant, 30, played for the Australian Schoolboys in 1998 and began his NRL career with the Canberra Raiders in 2002. He moved to the Sea Eagles in 2005 and played in consecutive Grand Finals against Melbourne Storm, being on the losing side in 2007 and emerging triumphant in 2008.
A powerful front rower at 107kg (16st 12lbs) and 183cm (6ft), he made the move to Wales for the 2009 season to play for the Crusaders in their inaugural Super League campaign.
Harlequins Head Coach Rob Powell said:"Mark is a top quality, experienced prop having played in Grand Finals in Australia. He has been a consistent performer in Super League over the last three years and will bring us experience and leadership."
Witt, another Australian, made a sensational start to his Super League career in 2010, rattling up 117 points in just 17 appearances before his inaugural season was cut short by a serious knee injury.
The half back, 180cm (5ft 11ins) and 84kg (14st), had a spell in rugby union with Otago prior to signing for the Crusaders but before than he had spent six years in the NRL. He played two seasons with each of three clubs, Parramatta Eagles in 2003-04, Manly Sea Eagles in 2005-06 and New Zealand Warriors in 2007-08.
Toowoomba-born, Witt was also a champion junior boxer before turning to Rugby League. Despite being born and brought up in Queensland, he turned out for New South Wales Under-19s while at Parramatta and for NSW Residents while at Manly.
Rob Powell said: "Michael will provide us with direction around the park. He has fantastic kicking game and is a great footballer. It's exciting brining him in and he will complement our existing quality play makers."
Andy EllisHooker Andy Ellis will leave the club at the end of the season. He has signed a three-year deal with the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Source: www.crusadersrfl.comCrusaders' Michael Witt has signed a new three-year contract with the club.
Stand-off Witt, 27, will remain at the Racecourse Ground until the end of the 2014 season and has shown his commitment to the Crusaders despite other offers from rugby league and union.
Michael Witt has been a mainstay of the Crusaders team since joining the club in December 2009 from New Zealand RU side Otago.
Since his arrival in Super League, Witt has scored 163 points in 36 appearances, including 54 goals and 13 tries.
His first season in Super League was cut short with a knee injury, but he has battled back to become one of the Crusaders' standout performers this season.
During this campaign so far, Witt has bagged seven tries, eight goals and two drop goals.
Witt's decision to extend his Crusaders stay is further good news for head coach Iestyn Harris, who secured the signature of Australian forward Shannan McPherson yesterday, and has seen several key first team players sign new deals at the Racecourse ground.
And Witt said he was more than happy to put pen-to-paper on a new deal at Super League's only Welsh club.
"I am very happy to have signed a 3 year extension and to have committed my future to the Crusaders," Witt said.
"I can see the club is intent on building something special here and I have every confidence we can do that with the players and coaches we have and the direction we are moving in.
"Above all I want this to be a club with a winning mentality, and I hope that in my time here we can achieve great success as a club."
Crusaders head coach Iestyn Harris added:
"Michael has become an integral part of the Crusaders team since he joined and I am delighted that he has decided to remain with us for the next three years.
"Michael is a really creative player who makes the side tick. He's one of the first names on the team sheet every week and he is maturing into a fine half-back.
"He plays with real flair and his kicking game is a real asset for us. But he's also not afraid roll up his sleeves and do the hard work as well. Michael is a player a lot of the guys in the squad look up to and I am looking forward working with him for the next three seasons.
Crusaders Chief Executive Rod Findlay said:
"Michael gives his all in every game and that is the type of player we want at the Crusaders.
"Iestyn sees him as an important part of our plans looking into the future so we're very pleased that Michael has committed to the Crusaders.
"He has a great attitude both on and off the field and his leadership qualities have shone through since he joined the club.
"We're very close to finalising our recruitment for next season and we see Michael very much as one of the faces of the Crusaders."
