Bradford Bulls have today announced that they have recalled Matt Cook from his loan spell at Castleford Tigers. Cook has been with the Tigers since the 9th of April but the Bulls have now brought him back to the Grattan Stadium with immediate effect.

Bulls Coach Steve McNamara said today:

"It was always our intention to bring Matt back to the Bulls when the time was right and we feel that the time is now. Matthew is a very valuable member of our First Team Squad and he will come into contention for this weekend's Carnegie Challenge Cup Quarter Final against Hull FC."

Cook joins Castleford from Bradford on loan

Castleford have signed Bradford back rowe forward Matt Cook on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 21-year-old has joined the Tigers where has been handed the No.17 jumper on the proviso that Bulls have the right to recall him in the event of an injury crisis.

Cook has made 41 appearances including four this season for the Bulls since joining them in 2003 from Saracens RUFC. In union Cook represented England at all levels including touring Australia and New Zealand with the England Academy.

Warrington born, Cook moved to Bedford as a youngster and played some rugby league with Bedford Swifts in the Conference. He made his Bulls senior debut in 2005.

Cook last week came off the bench for Bradford against Hull FC where he scored a try and last night again came off the bench this time for Castleford, also against Hull FC where he added another try to his tally.

Castleford Tigers CEO Richard Wright said: "We are very pleased to have been able to bring Matt to the Jungle.

"It has taken a while to strengthen the squad, but we always knew that we would have to be patient to get the right players, and in Matt we believe that we have achieved that. He is a young player with lots of promise and we believe he can be a big asset for us this year.

"I would also like to record my thanks to Bulls coach Steve McNamara and Chairman Peter Hood for their help in facilitating the deal."

Cook said: "I'm excited to be here with the Tigers, I have heard some good things about the club from Wayne Godwin and Andy Lynch and I am looking forward to playing at the Jungle. I'd also like to thank Steve McNamara for allowing me to leave the Bulls."

It wasn't the ideal start for Cook's new career at the Jungle despite scoring a try last night. Castleford went down to Hull FC 32-12 at the Jungle. In other matches, St Helens thumped Harlequins 58-12, Leeds out classed Warrington 32-12 and Catalans continued their giant killing season upsetting the might of Wigan 26-24 away from home.
