All club members invited to farewell Ryan, Hodgson and Tongue
Wed August 31, 2011
Source: www.bulldogs.com.au

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are inviting all NRL Club Members to join in the farewell for long serving Bulldogs captain Andrew Ryan this Sunday at ANZ Stadium.

Members of all 16 Clubs will be allowed entry to Sunday's match against the Canberra Raiders, which kicks off at 2pm and doubles as the final NRL match for Canberra skipper Alan Tongue.

Earlier this month, Ryan announced that he will be retiring at the conclusion of the 2011 season, with Sunday's match to be his last home game for the Bulldogs and the 291st match of his highlight-laden career.

"Andrew Ryan has been the heart and soul of the Bulldogs for much of the last decade and it is only fitting that we send him off in the biggest way possible," Bulldogs CEO Todd Greenberg says.

"We would like to see all of our Members come out to say a final thank you, and in addition we welcome Members of any other Club to come out as well.

"Certainly, I'm sure there are some Canberra Members who would like to give Alan Tongue a final send off, and this allows them to make the trek up the Hume Highway without needing to buy a ticket once they arrive.

"I can think of no better way to recognise the contributions made to the game by Andrew Ryan and Alan Tongue than to see a crowd that represents the whole Rugby League community on hand at ANZ Stadium on Sunday."

The Bulldogs have planned a range of initiatives to thank Ryan for his service over his nine seasons in Blue and White, including:

* Supporters on the eastern side of ANZ Stadium will join in the action on run out, holding up 6,000 cardboard signs that will spell out 'BOBCAT' in a larger than life tribute;
* Andrew will be joined by his family as he takes the field of play, including wife Olivia and children Lily, Jett and Evie;
* In the crowd will be hundreds of his family and friends from around NSW and Australia, all of whom have been provided special seating for the match;
* His junior Clubs - St Johns, Dubbo and Dubbo CYMS - will also be represented in the crowd;
* A special Bobcat T-Shirt and ticket offer has been implemented for the match, allowing fans to take a little bit of the experience home with them to keep;
* At the conclusion of the match, Andrew will be presented to the crowd before walking a lap of honour around ANZ Stadium.

The Bulldogs Club will also make a special presentation at the conclusion of the match to Alan Tongue, in recognition of his service to the game.

Members from all other NRL Clubs need to just show their Club Membership card at Gate B to gain entry to the ground.

Adding to the sense of theatre and occasion, the Bulldogs in conjunction with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment are joining forces once again for this match to celebrate the release of STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA on Blu-Ray on September 14.

There will be a meet and great with characters from the films and they will form a guard of honour for the team.

There is a limited edition Bulldogs Star Wars t-shirt and ticket offer for the game but get in quick as these are sure to be snapped up quickly. Members will be able to purchase limited edition the t-shirt at the game.

Raiders look to send Tongue out a winner
Thu August 25, 2011
Source: www.raiders.com.au

The Raiders will be playing for more than just pride on Saturday night at Canberra Stadium, as they look to send long serving skipper Alan Tongue out a winner in front of their home fans.

There's no disguising the fact it's been a disappointing year for the men in green, but with Tonguey's last game, a host of past players in attendance and the added incentive of staying clear of a wooden spoon should be enough to get them home for a win.

STATS BOX
HEAD TO HEAD
Played 59, Raiders 29, Panthers 29, drawn 1
At Canberra Stadium, Played 21, Raiders 15, Panthers 6

LAST 5 CLASHES
2011 - Panthers 36 d. Raiders 10 a Centrebet Stadium
2010 - Raiders 24 d. Panthers 22 at Centrebet Stadium
2010 - Raiders 30 d. Panthers 26 at Canberra Stadium
2010 - Panthers 34 d. Raiders 16 at Centrebet Stadium
2009 - Panthers 27 d. Raiders 14 at Centrebet Stadium

MATCH-UPS
Joel Thompson - Brad Tighe
Thompson is a dangerous ball runner who hits the line at good angles and pace and will be a handful on the right edge this weekend. Brad Tighe uses his speed to get outside his man and the Raiders will need to watch for his chip and chase.

Sam Williams - Luke Walsh
Sam Williams has played 16 games in his debut season and will be a better player for so much NRL experience at such a young age. His kicking game has been down of late, but when its on he can get the Raiders in good field position. Walsh's kicking game is vital for Penrith and expect plenty of mid field bombs looking for Lachlan Coote.

David Shillington - Petero Civoniceva
Two Queensland bookends go head to head on Saturday night, with Shillington out to show why he's looking to be the air to Petero's thrown as the number one prop in the game. Civoniceva wont be giving away his title though just yet so expect plenty of collision early on in this one.

HE SAID IT - with Sam Williams
"It's been a big year and I didn't think I'd play as much as I have, but I've really enjoyed it and hopefully we can send Tonguey out a winner this weekend."

WORTH NOTING
* Alan Tongue will play his last match at Canberra Stadium
* Over 100 past Raiders players will be there Saturday night
* There will be 10,000 Alan Tongue masks available on Saturday
* The Raiders Toyota Cup kicks off against the Panthers at 5.15pm
